Baigalmaa MEND-AMAR

I am a producer, visual storyteller and researcher documenting Ulaanbaatar’s changing cityscape. My work often compares contemporary photographs of streets and buildings with archival images from the 1960s to 2000s, exploring how memory and urban identity transform over time.

I am the co-founder and chairman of Mongolian Visuals, a social media platform and NGO dedicated to preserving Mongolia’s visual heritage, and co-host of the podcast Live from Red Hero. In 2022, I co-authored the book Posters of Mongolia in Transition with Finnish journalist Irja Halász, combining rare photographs and political posters from the democratic transition period.

In 2024, I co-produced and curated the documentary series The 10 Photographs Through My Lens, inviting leading Mongolian photographers to narrate history and memory through ten defining images. By curating, producing, and connecting across disciplines, I aim to expand how Mongolian visual culture is preserved and reimagined for future generations.
